Sam Sulek’s Mentality

The famous 21 year old Sam Sulek is arguably the head of the whole fitness industry at the moment. His popularity has been growing quickly since his first Youtube video due to his unedited “raw” content. Unlike videos of other fitness influencers, where the videos are heavily edited with loud music over them, Sam uploads videos that record his workout that are unedited on a daily basis. Some even say Sam Sulek is the Bob Ross of fitness. His mentality inspired a whole generation of young lifters to go hard at the gym and give everything they’ve got. Aside from lifters, athletes from all sports can learn from the Sam Sulek Mentality.

What Is The Sam Sulek Mentality?

The Sam Sulek Mentality is extremely easy to understand, to summarize, it is simply to go hard and love what you do. Across all of Sam’s videos, it can be seen that he is an advocate for pushing as hard as possible and training to failure every single set. A lot of people trying to gain muscle and get big are scared of going to failure and push beyond their limits. However, Sam Sulek inspires his viewers to always give everything they have every single set, and to push and find what they are capable of. During one of his car talks, he states that “[he]’d rather go too far, than not far enough.” Furthermore, Sam Sulek also encourages his viewers to enjoy every single lift, and to lift for themselves and not others, one of his famous quote being “are you lifting to impress others or to impress yourself ?”

Most people going to the gym are lifting because they want to gain muscle and look aesthetic, but they quit early on because they are not seeing the results. Not seeing results fast enough is the main reason why a lot of people quit. However, Sam urges people to enjoy the process rather than the result, stating that “the man who loves walking will walk further than the man who loves the destination.” It is important that people actually enjoy going to the gym and challenge themselves instead of just wanting to see results.

How Does It Apply To Sports Other Than Lifting?

Sam Sulek’s mentality of working as hard as possible while enjoying the process can be applied to virtually every single sport. Since foundamentally, it encourages athletes give everything they’ve got while simultaneously loving what they do to avoid possible burnouts. Whether it be basketball, tennis, or football, athletes need to train as hard as they can every single practice. They need to push so hard that they are able to actually see where their limits are, so that they can keep raising their limit and reach new levels. Furthermore, the athletes need to love their sport, if not, they will probably not excel at it no matter how much time they have put in it. Athletes should find a way to love their sports, rather than just focusing on titles and awards. With this mindset, the sports will become a lot more enjoyable with less stress involved, which would further boost an athlete's performance. With Sam Sulek’s Mentality, athletes will keep improving and pushing their limits while loving what they do.
